
The PFLAG Lubbock board meets on the second Tuesday of the month, 7:00 PM, usually online. There are no costs associated with being on the board, but each person is required to be a member in good standing. Board members serve a one-year term and elections are conducted at the fall meeting (typically October) of each year.

Serving on the board means fostering allyship, building connections with local advocacy and support communities, driving meaningful change, and standing in solidarity as an active ally. The Board shall be elected by the general membership for a term of one fiscal year (October through September), and are eligible for reelection.

Summary
The Board of Directors shall manage the affairs, transactions, and property of the Chapter and have control over the Chapter’s business. A board member may act in the name of the Chapter only when specifically authorized by the Board of Directors. A quorum for Board meetings shall consist of one-half (½) of the Board of Directors for general decision-making. Each elected board member shall have one vote per item at Board meetings.
The Chapter shall be governed by the members of the Chapter, who shall elect a Board of Directors consisting of a President, Internal Vice President, External Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Communications Director. The members of the Chapter may also elect At-Large Members as desired. Each officer shall be a general member of the Chapter in good standing. Chapter leadership shall hereinafter be referred to as “officers” or “board members.” Additionally, the President, Secretary, or Treasurer may not be related, married, or living at the same address.

Positions
- President – Lead the organization in accordance with PFLAG National’s mission, vision, and values. Oversee all aspects of the Chapter’s operations and preside over Chapter meetings. Support and guide other board members in the fulfillment of their duties and the pursuit of PFLAG National’s mission. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization and report to PFLAG National.
- Internal Vice President – Manage the organization’s internal affairs. Assist the President to fulfill Chapter responsibilities. Oversee Chapter programming and activities. Work with the Secretary and Treasurer to oversee procedures related to membership, including keeping records, processing dues payments, and encouraging participation. Preside over meetings in the absence of the President.
- External Vice President – Manage the organization’s external affairs. Oversee the organization’s recruitment, outreach, and educational activities. Work with the Secretary and Treasurer to oversee procedures related to scholarships, including maintaining applications, contacting local educational institutions, and notifying awardees. Communicate with other local organizations and seek opportunities for the Chapter to get involved in the community. Serve as an additional spokesperson for the Chapter.
- Secretary – Oversee the Chapter’s administrative or clerical tasks. Create and maintain archives and non-financial records, such as the Chapter roster, bylaws, and minutes. Distribute copies of proposals, resolutions, minutes, and bylaws when applicable. Respond to requests for information as appropriate. Take meeting attendance. Assist the President and Internal Vice President with annual reporting.
- Treasurer – Oversee the Chapter’s finances, transactions, and funding streams. Create and keep books and financial records for at least seven years. With the President, oversee access to funds and hold signature authority over the Chapter’s accounts. With the Secretary, verify dues payments for the Chapter roster. Make quarterly statements, annual reports, and annual budgets. Ensure adherence to the annual budget and compliance with all applicable financial regulations, such as tax filings.
- Communications Director – Manage the Chapter’s communications and public relations. Manage social media and email accounts and help respond to any messages received by the Chapter. Prepare and distribute a newsletter to Chapter members and other interested parties. Create official statements and press releases. Serve as an additional spokesperson for the Chapter.
- At-Large Member – Provide additional support where needed. Share duties with all other officers and board members.
Next Election
- Next election event will be held at the October general meeting.
- All participants wanting to run must be present and prepare to speak to their interest in serving.
Note: all Chapter members in good standing shall have the right to one vote per position at the annual election meeting.
